We are living in the shadow side of Masculine Energy

Hey Love,
While we live in a patriarchal society here in the U.S.  and in much of the world  it feels as though conscious masculinity has been overtaken by ego. Masculinity has become associated with dominance instead of protection, control instead of freedom, burnout and grinding instead of flow, and the accumulation of money as a measure of self-worth. Somewhere along the way, we lost touch with the true essence of masculine energy.

It feels as though masculinity is being suffocated by a distorted system that no longer allows it to breathe, soften, or fully express itself. We are living in the shadow side of patriarchy rather than its conscious form.

This reminds me of the shadow aspect of The Emperor in tarot. At his highest expression, The Emperor represents grounded leadership, protection, stability, wisdom, and the ability to create safe structures where life can flourish. He leads not through fear or domination, but through presence, integrity, and devotion to something greater than himself. But in his shadow form, The Emperor becomes rigid, controlling, emotionally disconnected, power-hungry, and consumed by the need to dominate. What was once meant to protect begins to suppress.

In a past email, we talked about how we all carry both masculine and feminine energy. One simple way to understand it is that feminine energy creates, and masculine energy supports, protects, and activates that creation. Healthy masculine energy creates safety for life, emotion, intuition, and creativity to exist freely.

Slowly, conversations are beginning to emerge around what healthy masculinity truly looks like and how it has been weaponized by systems that prioritize productivity, power, and profit above humanity. For so long, feminine energy was dismissed or confined to traditional roles rather than honored in its true essence: intuition, vulnerability, softness, creativity, emotional depth, and connection. Releasing the chokehold of distorted masculinity and reconnecting to our inner world is part of healing this imbalance.

Perhaps this moment in society is an invitation to redefine The Emperor entirely not as a ruler who controls, but as a protector who nurtures, grounds, and creates safety for both the masculine and feminine to exist in harmony.

With Love and Gratitude,
